FAQ
What are TagKicks sneaker tattoo transfers?
TagKicks sneaker tattoo transfers are artwork sheets made using temporary tattoo transfer sheet material, adapted for sneaker customisation projects.
The artwork is designed specifically for shoe customs, especially smooth white leather-style sneaker panels. Each sheet includes artwork elements that can be cut, placed, applied, dried, and sealed to create a wearable custom shoe design.
They are not permanent factory prints, so proper prep, careful application, and sealing are important.
Are TagKicks transfers permanent?
No. TagKicks transfers are not permanent.
They are made using temporary tattoo transfer sheet material and are intended for creative sneaker customisation projects. They are not a replacement for factory printing, leather paint, screen printing, or professional printed leather.
Final durability depends on:
- Surface prep
- Application placement
- Avoiding high-flex zones
- Drying time
- Sealing with finisher
- How often the shoes are worn
For best results, apply the artwork to smoother upper panels, let it dry fully, and seal it with a suitable matte sneaker or leather finisher.
Is the artwork AI-generated?
TagKicks artwork may be created or assisted using AI, then selected, refined, arranged, and prepared for sneaker customisation.
Each sheet is designed with shoe customs in mind, including main artwork pieces, support elements, micro details, and layout planning for sneaker panels.
What shoes work best?
TagKicks transfers work best on smooth white leather or leather-style sneakers, especially Air Force 1-style panel layouts.
Flat side panels and smoother upper areas usually give the cleanest result.
Is the artwork printed in mirror?
Yes. The artwork is mirror-printed so it appears the correct way once transferred onto the shoe.
What is the “Try Me First” patch for?
Each TagKicks sheet includes a small Try Me First test patch.
Use this patch before applying the main artwork. It lets you practise the process, test your surface prep, check how the transfer releases, understand drying time, and test finisher compatibility before working on your final shoe design.
We strongly recommend using the Try Me First patch first, especially if this is your first time using TagKicks transfers.
Do I need to prep the shoe first?
Yes. Prep is very important.
The surface should be clean, dry, and free from oils, dust, dirt, and factory finish before applying the transfer.
For best results, clean the application area with sneaker deglazer or acetone, lightly scuff with 1500 grit sandpaper, then clean again and allow the surface to dry fully.
Do I need to use deglazer or acetone?
Yes. For best results, use a suitable sneaker deglazer or acetone to prepare the application area.
This helps remove oils, dirt, and factory finish from the shoe surface.
Use deglazer or acetone carefully, away from flames, heat, and poor ventilation.
Do I need to sand the shoe?
Light sanding is recommended.
Use 1500 grit sandpaper with very light pressure. Do not sand aggressively. The goal is only to lightly prepare the surface, not damage the leather.
Can I apply transfers to midsoles or rubber soles?
No. We do not recommend applying transfers to midsoles, rubber soles, mesh, suede, fabric, or heavily textured materials.
For best results, apply TagKicks transfers to smooth upper panels only.
Should I avoid high-flex areas?
Yes. Avoid high-flex zones such as deep crease areas, toe box bend lines, raised panel edges, and areas that fold heavily when walking.
Flat side panels usually give the best result.
Can I apply one large piece across the whole shoe?
We do not recommend applying one large transfer across multiple panels, seams, or leather layers.
For best results, cut the artwork into smaller controlled pieces and apply each piece to a separate panel. This helps the artwork sit flatter and reduces the risk of lifting.
How do I know where to cut the artwork?
A good method is to place low-tack masking tape over the shoe panel, trace the panel shape, then remove the tape and use it as a rough template.
This helps you plan your artwork placement before cutting and applying the transfer.
Should I cut close to the artwork?
Yes. Cut as close as possible to the artwork to minimise the visible adhesive edge on the shoe.
Keep the adhesive or protective sheet on while cutting.
When should I remove the adhesive sheet?
Only remove the adhesive or protective sheet right before application, once the artwork is cut and the shoe surface is fully prepped.
Do not remove it early.
Can I touch the artwork after removing the adhesive sheet?
No. Once the adhesive sheet is removed, avoid touching the artwork or adhesive area with your fingers.
Fingerprints, oils, or marks can affect the final finish.
Can I reposition the transfer after sticking it down?
We do not recommend repositioning it.
Try to place the transfer correctly the first time. Once it sticks to the shoe, moving it may damage the artwork.
Can I touch the print while it is wet?
No. The print is sensitive while wet.
Do not touch it with your fingers. Use a soft brush gently if you need to remove bubbles or fix lifting edges.
How gentle should the application process be?
Very gentle.
Do not scrape, rub aggressively, stretch, drag, or force the artwork over seams, raised leather layers, or panel edges.
Take your time and work slowly.
How long should I let it dry?
We recommend leaving the applied transfer to dry for around 24 hours before bending, wearing, or sealing the shoe.
The artwork must be fully dry before finisher is applied.
Do I need to seal the artwork?
Yes. Sealing is strongly recommended.
Once the artwork is fully dry, seal it with a suitable sneaker or leather finisher. A matte finisher such as Angelus Matte Finisher is recommended for a clean custom look.
Apply several light coats instead of one heavy coat.
Can beginners use TagKicks transfers?
Yes. TagKicks can be used by beginners, DIY creators, and sneaker customisers.
If you are using them for the first time, start with the Try Me First patch before applying the main artwork.
Can I return a used sheet?
Unused sheets may be returned depending on our returns policy.
Used, cut, applied, damaged, or handled sheets cannot be returned unless faulty.
Do you include instructions?
Yes. Application guidance is available on our How It Works page.
We recommend reading the full application process before using your first TagKicks transfer.
